Fergal is part of the Media / Commercial Litigation team at Carson McDowell specialising in media, defamation and privacy, commercial litigation, administrative law and competition litigation.
Fergal acts for leading national and regional news groups in the defence of libel, privacy and data actions, and pre-publication injunction applications. He also acts for various corporates and business figures in managing and protecting reputations. Outside defamation and privacy, Fergal maintains a significant public law practice. He has acted in cases heard in all levels of the judicial system, including before the Supreme Court.
Fergal regularly delivers guest lectures on media law, was consulted on the Northern Ireland chapter of McNae’s Essential Law for Journalists (24th Ed., 06/2018), and provides commentary to the media on legal matters.

Qualifying as a Solicitor with commendation and awarded the Mills Selig Prize, Fergal joined Carson McDowell as a Solicitor from another specialist media law practice in 2015, and was promoted to Associate in 2018.
Fergal graduated with a degree in Law and Marketing in 2007 where he was awarded the Sweet & Maxwell University Law Prize, before completing an LLM in Human Rights Law and a Master’s degree in Business Studies.
