Iván Martín-Barbón has more than 20 years of experience advising sponsors, financial institutions, asset managers, and investment firms across a wide range of cross-border transactions, including real estate finance, private credit, energy transition, and structured and asset-backed finance. He also maintains a strong focus on financial regulatory matters, fintech, and digital assets.
Iván leads the real estate finance team within the firm's Spanish "Real Estate One-Stop Shop" platform, offering clients a fully coordinated legal strategy across the entire real estate investment life cycle.
His practice brings together three core intersecting areas: real estate finance, structuring sponsor-led and asset-backed deals with local insight and cross-border execution; structured finance, from leverage solutions (warehouse, repo, NAV) to securitisation frameworks; and financial regulation, covering the increasingly complex rules around AIFMD, lending licences, risk retention, and fund marketing in Europe, among other topics.
This broad expertise gives Iván a comprehensive understanding of the financial system, enabling him to guide clients through the legal, regulatory, and commercial risks inherent in highly dynamic sectors. His integrated approach ensures that structuring, financing, and regulatory considerations are aligned from the outset, delivering practical and commercially sound solutions to each transaction.
