About
Provided by Giles Maynard-Connor KC
Practice Areas
Giles is recognised as a robust, thorough advocate who readily assimilates the vital details, whilst maintaining an eye on the ‘big picture’.
He is a truly commercial litigator in terms of approach to his cases; appreciating the importance of leading a legal team in order to achieve his clients’ objectives (whether at trial or through ADR) as quickly and as cost effectively as possible.
His practice has a particular emphasis on civil and corporate fraud, company disputes, contentious insolvency work, professional negligence and banking.
Giles deals with substantial commercial litigation for Government and private clients.
Over the last 32 years he has appeared at all levels up to and including the Court of Appeal; he has also appeared outside the jurisdiction and acted as leading counsel in a number of high value international arbitrations.
In recent years he has successfully completed a number of high profile high value cases, including defending a £125M High Court claim and representing over 300 claimants in a multi-million pound case in the Cayman Islands.
Recent cases include Magee & Ors v Crocker & Anor [2024] EWHC 1723 (Ch), Clements v Frisby [2023] EWHC 320 (Ch), Alsop v Banner Jones & Cohen [2021] EWCA Civ 7 & Re Ahmed [2018] EWCA Civ 519.
