Practice Areas
Commercial Dispute Resolution; Defamation/Privacy
William’s practice comprises mainly commercial and company disputes and defamation actions. Across these areas his expertise as both a strategic litigator and an incisive advocate allow him to swiftly identify the client’s most advantageous approach and then to achieve the best result whether in negotiation or at trial. His caseload includes claims against directors and other senior managers for breaches of their duties to companies, often in the context of disputes between shareholders concerning breaches of agreements as to how companies are to be managed or allegations that the affairs of the company are being unfairly managed. Such disputes (especially if involving the end of personal relationships) require swift action to identify the true entitlements of the parties, the value of what is at stake and protection of the relevant assets.
In the sphere of defamation he is known for being able to deal with the most challenging of cases up to and including at trial and on appeal and has represented/advised a series of high-profile political and celebrity clients.
His advocacy has been praised by the Supreme Court and Privy Council as (respectively) “spirited and impressive” and as having “force and realism”.
