Emily Lam is the leader of Skadden's Palo Alto office. She advises on tax issues involving all phases of interaction with the IRS and Treasury, including matters in IRS Examinations and Appeals, private letter rulings and pre-filing agreements, voluntary disclosure submissions, closing agreements and requests for published guidance. Ms. Lam focuses on all aspects of administrative tax controversy; tax accounting issues; and exempt organizations. She regularly handles cases and matters that implicate cutting-edge tax issues. She previously served in the Department of Treasury's Office of Tax Policy, where she handled matters related to exempt organizations, charitable giving, partnerships and other pass-through entities; worked on administrative guidance and consulted with Congressional staff on tax policy. She has been recognized numerous times as a leading tax lawyer in California and nationwide, including being named a Top Woman Lawyer in California several times by the Daily Journal; and among the world’s leading tax advisers in International Tax Review’s Women in Tax Leaders Guide and in Euromoney’s Women in Business Law Expert Guide.
