Particular expertise in the health sector, with huge experience of representing claimants and defendants in employment, regulatory, disciplinary and civil proceedings. Appears regularly in High Court and tribunals in complex and high value employment disputes. Major practice in very high value clinical negligence, personal injury, inquests and associated public law and human rights challenges. Leading expert in criminal injuries compensation. Extensive experience in military claims. Recent notable cases (over 50 reported, including more than 30 in the CAand SC) include: R (Thomas) v JAC [2025] EWCA Civ 912 (selection process for judges); McCulloch v Forth Valley [2023] 3 WLR 321 (SC) (consent when giving clinical advice); Hughes v Rattan [2022] 1 WLR 1680 (CA) (non-delegable duty of care); NUPFC [2021] IRLR 588 (CA) (rights of foster carers); Gilham [2019] ICR 1655 (SC) (employment status of judges); DSD [2019] QB 285 (Worboys release); numerous claims arising from injuries of utmost severity, including a £26M lump sum in 2024.
