Particular expertise in the health sector, with huge experience of representing healthcare professionals and employers in employment, regulatory, disciplinary and civil proceedings. Appears regularly in High Court and tribunals in public sector and large commercial employment disputes. Major practice in very high value clinical negligence, personal injury, inquests and associated public law and human rights challenges. Leading expert in criminal injuries compensation. Extensive experience in military claims. Recent notable cases (over 50 reported, including 30 in the CA) include: McCulloch v Forth Valley [2023] 3 WLR 321 (SC) (consent when giving clinical advice); Hughes v Rattan [2022] 1 WLR 1680 (CA) (non-delegable duty of care); NUPFC [2021] IRLR 588 (CA) (rights of foster carers); Gilham [2019] ICR 1655 (SC) (employment status of judges); DSD [2019] QB 285 (Worboys release); numerous claims arising from injuries of utmost severity.
