Ashwin brings over 27 years of domestic and international experience in providing advice on matters relating to intellectual property, drug and medical device regulatory and compliance affairs, transactional affairs, anti-corruption & anti-kickback laws, litigation & dispute resolution.
Ashwin uses his industry experience in advising clients on regulatory issues pertaining to development, manufacture, pricing and marketing of drugs, cosmetics and medical devices in India. Additionally, his area of expertise extends to food related regulations in India, and operational compliances for healthcare institutions. He routinely advises clients on regulatory, ethical and compliance issues pertaining to drug approvals, pricing, and clinical trials in India and further advises on government and industry anti-kickback statutes and guidelines relating to physician-patient and drug representative- physician interactions. He regularly engages in reviewing and analysing regulatory approvals and registration licenses of target companies as part of business incorporation and due diligence efforts in large scale business merger/ acquisition matters
Ashwin actively monitors current legislative and policy developments in the pharmaceuticals and healthcare sector, at a national and state level, and advises clients on specific actions needed to address potential threats with respect to new regulations and formation of risk mitigation strategies having legal, ethical, policy and risk management considerations.
Ashwin also has extensive experience in providing advice to clients on IP across industry sectors including pharmaceuticals.
His extensive experience includes IP portfolio strategy, management, enforcement and litigation. Ashwin has been engaged in providing a range of IP advisory services such as IP prosecution strategy, portfolio assessment, infringement analysis and providing opinions on general IP related issues. He has also been involved in representing clients in revocation/ opposition and litigation actions before relevant authorities. Apart from deep rooted experience in supervising freedom-to-operate searches for domestic and foreign clients, he has extensive experience in conducting IP portfolio audits for clients and providing guidance on the setting up of in-house standard operating procedures pertaining to IP asset protection and has previously been involved in creating IP concept presentations to educate client employees on IP issues.
In addition to providing specialist IP services to the Firm’s clients and with a view towards staying on top of academic developments, Ashwin regularly interacts with government regulators, law enforcement, industry associations, academia, media and the legal community on issues of IP law and policy.
