THE FIRM

Capital Law is a commercial law firm, working nationally and internationally from its base in Wales. The firm also recently invested in a new London address, to provide a safe and productive hub for its staff and clients to work and meet in the capital.

Capital Law is made up of leading lawyers (several of whom have joined from Magic Circle and other City and international firms) and consultants, who work closely with their clients to provide the highest quality services across the private, public, and third sectors.

Spread across four main legal divisions – corporate and commercial, commercial disputes, employment and immigration and real estate, Capital Law’s legal teams also collaborate across the firm to cover specialist areas – including (but not limited to) public law and regulatory, banking and finance, financial services.

A large proportion of Capital Law’s clients operate in, trade with, or have other interests in other countries. The firm is part of several global networks – including Consulegis, GBL Alliance and the China Collaborative Group (CCG) – and has recently launched international desks to help clients get the speedy and direct access to the international support they need.

Capital Law also works closely with its sister consultancy business, Capital People, which specialises in organisational development, human resources, and health and safety.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK

CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL:

Capital Law’s established corporate team advises a diverse range of clients - from large international corporates, private equity funds and regional SMEs, to individuals and family and privately owned businesses. The team is used to working on complex and high-profile mergers and acquisitions, often with a crossborder angle, and its corporate lawyers have a proven track record in private equity and venture capital.

Capital Law helps businesses of all shapes and sizes run smoothly, legally, and successfully – whether they need a set of robust commercial contracts, want advice on data protection or need guidance on managing compliance. The team thinks practically, negotiates agreements commercially, and helps its clients navigate the complex mix of commercial laws.

COMMERCIAL DISPUTES

Capital Law’s disputes team is used to handling high-profile commercial and public law claims, often with a multijurisdictional angle. It also advise on investigations, crisis and reputation management and debt recovery.

Building upon its track record of handling high value, complex disputes, Capital Law was the UK’s first law firm to launch its own litigation fund – Capital Dispute Finance. Worth £50m, the fund pays the cost of pursuing the right type of claim so that the firm’s clients don’t have to. It can support those looking to take on a wealthy opponent, individual claimants wishing to join forces in a group action or those who’d prefer not to risk their own funds.

EMPLOYMENT & IMMIGRATION

Capital Law’s employment team handle all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, collective and individual. Its lawyers have niche expertise in business immigration, as well as extensive experience in equality and diversity, data protection, business acquisitions and reorganisations, mediation, TUPE, employee investigations, pensions, trade union law, and disciplinary and grievance procedures.

The team has a strong reputation for high-profile, complex and sensitive employment litigation. It deals with claims in both employment tribunals and the civil courts, often undertaking tribunal advocacy itself to provide clients with consistency of representation from start to finish.

REAL ESTATE

Capital Law’s real estate division gathers experts in commercial property, construction and environmental and planning, real estate finance, and property litigation. The team also has sector experts from across the firm covering energy, education, local government, devolved government, and social housing. It often acts as a bridge between the private and public sectors in large scale projects.

This collaborative approach helps to spot angles that others might miss when helping clients structure deals, manage their assets and portfolio, work on complex development and infrastructure projects, or handle business space deals.
