Varinia Radu is Head of Energy and Projects in Romania and Deputy Head of the CEE Energy Projects and Construction Practice Group. Based in Bucharest, she is known as a top industry expert and opinion leader, at the forefront of the energy legal work, encompassing 20 years of experience across various sectors within the energy industry.
She advises an impressive roster of high-profile clients such as renewable and nuclear projects developers, oil majors, power traders, international financial institutions and investors on a full range of issues relating to power and renewable energy projects, nuclear, mineral resources, oil & gas, and infrastructure sectors.
Varinia has extensive legal experience in Romania and CEE on the power and renewables market, in specific regulatory, licensing, and support scheme legal matters - advising key investors, participating in legislative changes working groups or advising the Government of Romania for a new incentive scheme for clean technologies. She notably contributed to a number of important laws in the sector, such as the Petroleum Law, the Energy Law, the Contracts for Difference (CfD) support scheme for low carbon technologies, the road map and associated dedicated legislation for the offshore wind. She has also advised on independent power projects, including financing, renewable and emissions trading, regulatory and commercial arrangements, public procurement issues, and public tenders matters.
