Practice Areas
Trevor is Partner and Head of Asset Management and Regulation.
He has extensive experience in investment fund law and brings this expertise to bear in dealing with related issues in debt capital markets law as well as Irish regulatory matters primarily related to asset management and financial services.
Trevor’s practice has focused on advising fund promoters on structuring, establishing, listing and maintaining UCITS and alternative investment funds in Ireland with a particular focus on structured UCITS, hedge funds, real estate and venture capital or private equity funds. More recently, Trevor has focused on life settlement funds.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Trevor was a partner in two of Ireland's other leading law firms, one of which he joined, prior to his qualification as a lawyer, from the funds authorisation department of the Central Bank of Ireland. Trevor began his career in Chicago, where he worked for the local investment banking subsidiaries of ABN AMRO and Société Générale where he was in charge of middle office activities for a number of securitization vehicles. Trevor returned to Ireland in 1998 to help establish Société Générale’s fund depositary business in Ireland as deputy general manager/head of compliance.
In addition to being a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Law Society of England and Wales, Trevor is a member of the International Bar Association and is an active member of a number of Irish Funds (the industry lobby group of the regulated funds industry in Ireland, recently having been heavily involved in the working group that liaised with the Central Bank of Ireland and Irish government to bring about changes enabling the reform of the Irish Investment Limited Partnership, a regulated alternative investment fund structured as a partnership designed to appeal to promoters of VC/PE funds and real estate funds. Trevor is a contributor to publications including Butterworths Journal of Banking, Financial Law, Finance Dublin as well as the business pages of Irish national newspapers.

Experience
Trevor’s recent experience includes:
- providing Irish financial services legal advice to Irish and overseas financial services providers, including advising on compliance with MiFID (Markets in Financial Services Directive), AIFMD (Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive) UCITS (Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities)
- assisting fund promoters with all of their ‘cradle to grave’ requirements for Irish investment funds by helping them decide on appropriate legal structures given the applicable legal, fiscal and distribution requirements, constituting the relevant structures and obtaining regulatory approval for them where relevant and assisting with compliance and maintenance throughout their existence
- advising fund promoters in relation to their asset management and distribution issues in relation to their Irish fund offerings whether those funds are regulated or unregulated
- assisting asset managers to structure structured debt vehicles whether or not listed on stock exchanges in the EU to obtain the exemptions from dividend withholding taxes
