Stephen Pearne

Stephen is a Director of Legal Strategy and Head of Commercial at Harper James. Qualifying as a solicitor in 1998, Stephen has over 25 years’ experience advising on a broad range of commercial matters, with a particular focus on technology for the past 15 years.

His interest in technology law began at BT, where he worked in the in-house legal team on major commercial contracts, including supplier agreements for the landmark ‘21st Century Network’ project. He then co-founded a boutique law firm at the height of the internet boom, helping businesses create the legal frameworks they needed to operate online.

Since then, Stephen has advised on everything from SaaS solutions and software development agreements to mobile app terms, EULAs and contracts with online gaming platforms. His work also reaches into the life sciences sector, including agreements for protein synthesis and reagents databases.

Stephen is highly experienced in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts – from supply and distribution deals to standard terms and conditions.

Stephen works closely with start-ups, scale-ups and established businesses, taking the time to understand what makes each one unique. He believes the best legal advice combines experience, commercial sense and genuine partnership.
