John is a Financial Services Regulation Partner at Harper James. He advises financial institutions, service providers and merchants on a wide range of regulated activities, including payments, e-money, consumer credit, FCA authorisation, anti-money laundering (AML), data protection and gambling operations.

Before qualifying as a solicitor, John spent more than a decade working in financial services. This commercial background gives him a clear understanding of the challenges businesses face and allows him to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.

His experience includes supporting major banks and fintechs of all sizes on both white-label and direct-to-consumer agreements in payments and e-money services.

John has extensive experience helping firms apply for authorisation from financial and gambling regulators to carry out regulated activities. He also drafts, negotiates and reviews commercial agreements involving payment services and advises on regulatory compliance, including AML, data protection, consumer credit, payments and e-money rules.
