Ryan Clinton leads Hunton’s Texas appellate practice. A former Texas Assistant Solicitor General, Ryan has over 25 years of appellate and litigation experience in state and federal courts. He has delivered dozens of trial and appellate arguments, numbering in the double-digits before the Supreme Court of Texas. He is also Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law.
Ryan handles high-stakes appeals in the Supreme Court of Texas and beyond. His diverse experience includes energy and oil-and-gas, government and constitutional, contract, statutory, intellectual property, personal injury, and employment appeals.
Many of Ryan’s high-profile representations arose from Texas’s energy industry, including obtaining a vacatur of a $125 million arbitration award for an electricity company, a rendition of judgment for a Texas exploration company in a mineral-interest sales dispute, a rendition of judgment in an oil-and-gas construction-accident matter, and affirmances for clients in disputes involving premises liability, royalty calculations, retained-acreage clauses, and “produced water.”
Ryan also has a wealth of experience handling governmental appeals, including successfully handling an administrative appeal from the Texas Railroad Commission, mandamus challenges against tax-appraisal districts, and a rulemaking challenge against a licensing agency.
Ryan is also a frequent speaker at oil-and-gas and appellate continuing legal education conferences.
