Mr. Brownell is the former chair of the firm's executive committee and former head of its administrative law and environmental practice groups. Mr. Brownell has been lead counsel on some of the most important and precedent-setting environmental cases of his time. With decades of experience representing clients in a broad range of environmental litigation, regulatory, legislative, transactional, and compliance matters, he has appeared repeatedly before the US Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. He also manages proceedings before federal and state agencies and courts and represents clients before State Attorneys General around the country. These representations include proceedings on greenhouse gas emissions, defense of public nuisance and enforcement litigation, and compliance counseling on clean air, chemical, and waste issues. Mr. Brownell partners with Fortune 500 clients to build durable strategies for future growth. In his spare time, he chaired the board of the National Park Trust for many years and continues to devote time to this organization and other pro bono and public service causes.
