Roger Dobson is the head of Jones Day’s Restructuring and Insolvency Practice in Australia. He offers clients his extensive experience working on large, complex restructuring and insolvency matters in Australia. Over the past decade, Roger has represented main banking syndicates, offshore funds holding a substantial debt position, companies experiencing financial distress, liquidators, administrators, and receivers. His experience covers a range of industries, including energy and resources, mining, construction, engineering, media and communications, investment banking and financial services, retail, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
Recently, Roger represented the largest creditor in the restructure of Australia’s second airline, Virgin Australia. Other recent engagements include the administrations of TopShop, Paladin Energy, and Payless Group, representing the US Sasser Group on the restructure of its Australian rail infrastructure business, and acting for Insurance Commission of Western Australia, the largest creditor in the Bell Resources Group liquidation, which concluded in 2020 and is the most complex liquidation in Australia. Roger has also represented senior lender groups in many complex restructurings and insolvencies, including Babcock & Brown group (AUD 66bn external debt), ABC Learning and Allco.
Roger is a member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) and INSOL International.
