Practice Areas

Robert has a broad criminal practice. In previous years he represented as junior counsel, Colonel Lama, who was accused of torture during the Nepalese civil war and a custody sergeant accused of perjury in the Sean Rigg inquest. He has also prosecuted for the Information Commissioner acting as junior counsel in cases concerning blue chip companies who hired private investigators to blag to personal data from banks. He regularly defends police officers and is instructed in a trial arising out of a police shooting.

Over the last couple of years he has mainly been defending in a long-running case of insider dealing and defending a company implicated in the 1MDB $1.8 billion fraud. This case has involved overlapping proceedings in Malaysia, UK, the USA and Switzerland. He is often involved in advising on international matters and has advised the Kazakhstan Ministry of Justice on allegations of corruption in Kurdistan that were identified in civil proceedings and is assisting in drafting a new criminal procedure code for a Middle Eastern state.

He is currently instructed alone to defend several serious cases including a multiple stabbing, a rape, and a case of cryptocurrency money laundering. He is also instructed as leading counsel in an auction fraud connected to defrauding the elderly. Robert has extensive experience of cross-examining vulnerable witnesses, experts and co-defendants in cut-throat cases
