Rob has a broad commercial practice, with a particular focus on banking and finance, civil fraud, and general commercial disputes. He has been instructed in multiple cases in The Lawyer’s ‘Top 20’, including a year-long trial. His recent instructions include: the Boohoo securities class action (defending Section 90A FSMA proceedings); EuroChem v SocGen & ING (defending non-payment of a performance bond on the basis that the claimants were owned and/or controlled by a sanctioned Russian oligarch); PIFSS v Al Rajaan (defending a Swiss private bank in a US$900m claim based on alleged payment of secret commissions); APS & Alpine v Sumitomo (proceedings in the Supreme Court of Bermuda seeking an appraisal of the ‘fair value’ of shares in a NYSE-listed pharmaceutical company); RAKIA v Azima and Al Sadeq & Quzmar v Dechert (defending a law firm against various allegations of wrongdoing including computer hacking, procurement of a Court judgment by fraud, and human rights abuses); and AMMENA v AML (acting for Aston Martin Lagonda in multiple related sets of proceedings against its Middle Eastern distributor, involving debt claims and allegations of bad faith).
