Richard Jones

Richard is a well-known regulatory specialist and has worked extensively across payments and open banking. He leads Eversheds Sutherland’s International Payment Services Group. Richard is recognized as one of the UK’s foremost compliance professionals in payments and works with regulators and industry bodies, advising all parts of the payments ecosystem on how regulation—and the decisions and approaches of regulators—can influence their strategies.

His work centers on advising business leaders on issues related to payments, including launching new products, implementing processes to comply with new laws, innovation, the impact of fintech, authorizations, safeguarding, cross-border services, financial inclusion, and Open Banking.

Richard has led some of the largest payments projects in recent years, including the implementation of PSD2 across Europe, the launch of market-leading, multi-jurisdictional payments products, and the delivery of new digital strategies. He is a trusted adviser to many board members of payments firms and is regularly involved in shaping market strategy as well as ensuring the compliance of operational processes.

In addition to his work, Richard acts as a judge for the payments industry’s leading awards, held annually by the Payments Association, recognizing excellence and innovation across the sector.
