A former federal and state prosecutor and accomplished trial lawyer, Joey defends companies and executives in government investigations and related litigation, including criminal and civil investigations by the Department of Justice and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions by the SEC and other federal and state agencies. He has significant experience handling matters involving health care fraud, the False Claims Act, securities fraud, insider trading, antitrust violations, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, money laundering, tax fraud, and environmental crimes. He has served as lead counsel in over 25 jury trials in federal and state courts, including a recent federal criminal trial in which the jury acquitted his client of all charges.
Joey also conducts sensitive internal investigations on behalf of public and private organizations and their boards, often prompted by whistleblowers, and advises on remedial actions and disclosure decisions. Joey previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, focusing primarily on health care fraud, public corruption, and other white-collar crimes. He successfully prosecuted numerous high-profile cases such as Centennial Olympic Park bomber Eric Rudolph.
