Paul leads Eversheds Sutherland's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team. He is also a Solicitor-Advocate, a Chartered Member of IOSH, a qualified teacher and a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management.
An Environmental, Health and Safety Partner within the Litigation practice, Paul is also international head of the EHS team. He has worked exclusively in this area since qualifying in 2006 and has been a Partner since 2016. He is a ‘one firm man’.

This includes Police, HSE, OSHA, HSI, EA or similar authority investigation following injury, fatality or environmental spill, system resilience, deep dive review, safety improvement planning or executive coaching.
Paul also assists organizations with reputation management, particularly after a crisis. As a solicitor-advocate, Paul conducts his own advocacy whenever possible, with extensive experience in representing Interested Persons at inquests.
A significant part of Paul's role is to grow safety resilience in organizations, both to re-orient after a seminal safety moment or to engage with and prevent tragedy.
"Resilient Safety" ̶ the end-to-end global safety management program which diagnoses, repairs and reviews safety management systems has completed various global mandates in the last 3 years including a systems review for an energy client in Hong Kong. The product leverages subject matter experts to rebuild safety management systems following deep dives into plateauing safety performance.
Paul is regularly parachuted into fatality investigations to offer strategic advice on how to improve local conditions and keep people safe moving forwards.
Outside of advising clients, Paul has been instrumental in developing guidance for leaders, assisting IOSH with its investigation guide and is a regular contributor to industry publications such as SHP and IOSH magazine. Paul is highly sought after on the speaking circuit and often addresses directors and boards on safety culture.
In his early career as an academic, Paul won various awards in education. Throughout his career with Eversheds Sutherland, he has used this expertise to develop and showcase safety training, creating the Eversheds Safety Summer School and building our training business.
A keen runner, Paul is trying to complete an alphabet of marathons before his 50th birthday and enjoys travel. Paul is passionate about diversity, inclusion and social mobility and is the only lawyer in the firm to have received a Points of Light Award from the British Prime Minister for services to charity in his role as a trustee of Team Verrico, a niche cancer research charity.
