Paul is a partner and head of the specialist Family Law team at Boyes Turner. In addition to his role as a solicitor, he is also an experienced and fully accredited mediator. No matter how he is assisting, he is known for his passion in finding creative and sensible solutions for the clients and families that he works with.

Paul will regularly help in all areas of divorce, separation and private family law matters, but he is best known for his experience with:

• Financial issues on divorce

Paul is known for his problem-solving and strategic approach to financial issues on divorce. He has experience in assisting with complex financial arrangements, including business assets, trusts, complex income structures and international finances. He can assist whether at the point of relationship breakdown or at the outset of a marriage when exploring a pre-nuptial agreement. Paul is also adept at unlocking financial matters where there are challenging dynamics.

• Resolving arrangements for children

Paul has experience with helping resolve arrangements and other issues concerning children, including situations with challenging parenting dynamics, allegations of domestic abuse, children with SEN, international elements and other complex circumstances. Paul also advises in relation to both internal and international relocation issues. Clients like Paul’s empathetic and child-focussed approach.

• Financial matters concerning unmarried couples

Paul is one of a select few to hold Resolution Specialist Accreditation in relation to issues concerning unmarried couples, demonstrating his expertise and experience in this complex area of the law. He frequently assists in relation to property disputes under TOLATA and provision for children matters under Schedule 1 of the Children Act. As well as disputes at the end of unmarried relationships, Paul frequently assists couples wishing to regulate their finances at the outset through cohabitation agreements.

Paul is well known for being at the forefront of driving groundbreaking out of court processes, having been one of the first in the country to develop joint legal services for couples. He works hard to keep clients away from court where possible, expertly balancing an empathetic and yet robust approach to the issues at hand. He takes a holistic approach to the work, being able to call on a wide network of other professionals to ensure clients get what they need and when they need it. Operating as part of a full-service firm, Paul can also call upon his colleagues to ensure every legal angle is covered.

As a mediator, Paul is accredited for all issues via the Family Mediation Council, which demonstrates his established and thriving mediation practice. It also means that he is qualified to sign court forms and undertake Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMS). Paul is also one of a select group of mediators who are trained to conduct family mediation using a ‘hybrid mediation’ model, a further tool to help parties unlock the issues they face.

Career

Paul joined Boyes Turner as a partner in 2021 to establish and develop the firm’s Family Law team.

Prior to joining Boyes Turner, Paul studied Law and Business at the University of Warwick before achieving a distinction in his Legal Practice Course. He qualified as a solicitor in 2011, having trained at a leading regional firm in Guildford since 2009. He went on to establish his career in leading firms in Surrey and Berkshire before joining Boyes Turner.

Paul has always had a passion for mediation, having initially worked with leading mediators in Sydney, Australia in 2007/08. He completed his own mediation training in 2013 with Resolution and gained fully accredited status via the Family Mediation Council in 2020. Paul is also recognised by the Law Society for mediation, and he added qualifications in hybrid mediation in 2023.
