Niranjan was appointed King’s Counsel in 2025 after only nine years in practice. Before taking silk, he was one of the leading juniors at the Commercial Bar (C&P Band 1; C&P Commercial Litigation Junior of the Year 2024; Legal500 Junior of the Year 2023).
In his first year in silk, he acted for one of the successful appellants in the landmark motor finance appeal in the Supreme Court and in other major litigation in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Competition Appeal Tribunal (e.g. DP World v Soprim; Gormsen v Meta; AAA v BBB [2025] EWHC 1647 (Comm); IBM v LzLabs etc). He is often brought into appeals and is known for his ability to find solutions in difficult cases.
In 2024, he acted for the successful defendants in a high-profile section 423 claim (Invest Bank v El-Husseini), the successful appellant in a complex appeal about leasehold enfranchisement (159-167 Prince of Wales RTM v Assethold), the claimants in a major oil and gas dispute (TAQA v Fujairah Oil and Gas) and for the successful defendant in one of the leading cases about abuse of process by warehousing (Watford Control Investments v Brown).
Niranjan has extensive appellate experience, having appeared eight times in the Supreme Court/Privy Council. He is also called to the Indian Bar (non-practising) and is able to advise on matters of Indian law. Niranjan read and taught law at Oxford, where he was a Vinerian, Eldon and Rhodes scholar.
