Mercedes Bernal

Ms. Bernal is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in Madrid and leads the Forensic Technology Services practice in Spain. With more than 17 years of experience, Ms. Bernal specializes in the areas of computer digital forensic investigations, fraud investigations, and complex data analysis. She has also served as an expert witness before local and international courts.

Ms. Bernal has undertaken assignments in large scale litigations and investigations across the world including Luxembourg, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, South America, Portugal, and The Netherlands. Ms. Bernal conducted a large number of complex investigations into allegations of accounting manipulation, embezzlement of funds, corruption, money laundering, and bribery. In particular, she led one of the biggest investigations for an entity in the public sector in Colombia.

As a dedicated forensic technology practitioner, Ms. Bernal also provides specialist services in computer digital investigations (analysis of the use of electronic devices assigned to employees or alleged misconduct, misappropriation of confidential information, unauthorized access to information, etc.) and international eDiscovery projects following reporting requirements by regulatory bodies such as the SEC and analysis of data extracted from different data repositories to identify patterns or irregular conducts.

Ms. Bernal began her professional career in the department of New Network Technologies at Telefónica I+D in 2008. In 2010 she joined the Department of Analytics and Forensic Technology at Deloitte where she reached the rank of Manager. Ms. Bernal also led FTI’s Forensic Technology practice in Spain as a Director between 2016 and 2019.
