Mauricio Piñeros Perdomo is Country Chair of Pérez-Llorca Colombia and Head of its Tax practice. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience, he advises companies in a wide range of industries on corporate taxation, litigation, and cross-border structuring, and advises individuals and family groups on estate planning. His practice spans the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, banking and finance operations, project financing, foreign investment into Colombia, and outbound investment.
Career
Mauricio began his career in leading Colombian law firms before joining Pérez-Llorca, where he has consolidated his standing as one of the country’s highest-profile tax lawyers. Between 2018 and 2024, he served as an alternate justice (conjuez) in Colombia’s Constitutional Court, where he contributed to key rulings with legal and social impact. He is recognised as Band 2 by Chambers Latin America 2025 in Tax, a Leading Partner by The Legal 500 2025, and Highly Regarded by ITR World Tax 2024.
Personal
Mauricio is a board member and three-time president of the Colombian Institute of Tax Law and sits on the board of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), Colombia. He is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and has taught tax law at Universidad del Rosario, Universidad de los Andes, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, all in Bogotá. He holds a law degree, a specialisation in Tax Law, and a specialisation in Financial Law from Universidad del Rosario.
Work Highlights
Mauricio has played key roles in some of Colombia’s most significant corporate and tax transactions. His experience includes advising on Ecopetrol’s corporate reorganisation, the merger of SABMiller and Bavaria, and Almacenes Éxito’s acquisitions of Libertad and Grupo Pão de Açúcar. He also led the restructuring of Bogotá Beer Company and Mercantil Colpatria, and advised Grupo Aval on the design and implementation of its loyalty programme. In addition, he has provided strategic tax planning in the energy sector and counselled on the tax aspects of major infrastructure transactions, including the acquisition of the Briceño-Tunja-Sogamoso road concession. His practice integrates both advisory and contentious work, providing clients with comprehensive solutions in high-stakes matters.
