He has unparalleled experience in heavy civil fraud claims, appearing in Privatbank v Kolomoisky [2020] 1 All ER (Comm) 555 ($2 billion claim against owners of Ukrainian bank); Tatneft v Bogolyubov [2021] 1 WLR 1612 ($300m claim against owners of an oil refinery); Argyle UAE v Par-La-Ville [2018] EWCA Civ 1762 (Bermudian real estate); Central Bank of Ecuador v Conticorp [2016] 1 BCLC 26 ($500m claim against owners of Ecuadorian bank); Pell Frischmann v Bow Valley [2010] BLR 73 (construction of oil platform in the Gulf). Matthew has appeared in the Privy Council, the Court of Appeal and proceedings in Bahamas, BVI, Cayman, Jersey and Guernsey. He also has wide experience of international arbitration, acting in the UK and numerous jurisdictions overseas.
