Mark has particular expertise in road transport law, frequently appearing before the Traffic Commissioners in public inquiries and impounding hearings, as well as handling appeals to the Upper Tribunal and clandestine entrant penalty cases. His health and safety work includes defending criminal prosecutions, advising on civil appeals against enforcement notices, and representing interested persons in inquests.
He is also experienced in environmental and planning law, including rights of way disputes, planning enforcement, inquiries, and criminal proceedings, often with a financial dimension under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. Mark acts for major retailers in food law matters, particularly in hearings arising from food safety and hygiene inspections.
In the wake of the Grenfell tragedy, Mark has developed a notable practice in fire and building safety, advising on the evolving regulatory landscape and representing clients in appeals against notices issued by fire and rescue authorities. His broader regulatory work includes prosecutions brought by water undertakers, cases involving abattoirs and slaughtermen, and proceedings under health and social care and housing legislation.
