Laura Phillips is a specialist regulatory advocate. Her practice encompasses the broad spectrum of consumer, food, health & safety, fire safety, product safety and environmental law and related legislation such as housing and licensing. She is often instructed in matters which cut across consumer and safety law such as product or food safety.

Career

Laura has particular expertise in relation to regulatory enforcement and crime. She advises and acts for individuals, companies, local authorities and other regulatory authorities and the CPS across proceedings in the civil, criminal and appellate courts, and at tribunals, inquiries and inquests. She has represented a wide range of clients including regulators, businesses and individuals including in cases involving fatalities and serious injuries. Her clients include national and international businesses. She is an experienced trial advocate, and mindful of the need to provide timely, practical and commercially sensitive advice.

Laura is the author of ‘A Practical Guide to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005’ and a contributing author to Consumer and Trading Standards Law and Practice (forthcoming edition) (‘the Pink Book’). She has previously been a contributing author to Garners’ Environmental Law Encyclopaedia, Atkins Court Forms, Westlaw Insight and Lexis Nexis Practice Guides and the Journal of Trading Standards and has lectured at the Bartlett School of Planning at UCL.
