Complex dispute resolution. High-value commercial, corporate and contractual litigation. Shareholder and corporate disputes. Domestic and international commercial arbitration.
Mariano A. Rovelli is a founding partner of Tavarone Rovelli Salim Miani, where he co-heads the Litigation, Arbitration & Insolvency department. Admitted in 1998, he acts as counsel and co-counsel in complex disputes across the full contentious spectrum: commercial arbitration, high-value commercial, corporate and contractual litigation, shareholder disputes, class action defence, insolvency proceedings, and administrative and public law litigation.
Mariano is a leading name in banking and financial disputes in Argentina, a reputation built on landmark cases for major financial institutions. He represents banks, fintechs and capital markets intermediaries in high-stakes commercial and regulatory litigation, and has a substantial defence-side class action practice in consumer protection, antitrust and financial products claims affecting entire retail customer bases. He also defends financial institutions in proceedings before the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA), the securities regulator (CNV) and the anti-money laundering regulator (UIF), and on judicial review of their decisions.
Beyond financial services, he litigates disputes arising from energy, infrastructure, construction and transport projects, including concession and toll claims against state-owned operators, challenges to regulatory sanctions, environmental claims affecting the construction of generation assets, and constitutional and administrative claims over strategic assets. He also acts in shareholder disputes and in contractual and intellectual property claims, including trademark licensing disputes with cross-border elements, and in insolvency and enforcement matters, representing creditors in concurso preventivo proceedings and in judicial enforcement actions for the recovery of defaulted capital markets instruments. He litigates at every stage, from first instance through to the Argentine Supreme Court.
His arbitration experience covers domestic and international proceedings under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the Arbitration Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and before the General Arbitration Tribunal of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange (Tribunal de Arbitraje General de la Bolsa de Comercio de Buenos Aires) and the Centro Empresarial de Mediación y Arbitraje (CEMA). His arbitration practice is concentrated in energy, infrastructure and construction disputes. He is a member of CEMA’s list of arbitrators.
Mariano Rovelli began his career in-house at BBVA Argentina. He then joined Bruchou, Fernández Madero & Lombardi, where he practised until 2014, latterly as a partner, in commercial litigation and arbitration and in banking and financial disputes. He left the firm in 2014 to found Tavarone Rovelli Salim Miani.
