Lutz is a partner in Freshfields’ global IP/Dispute Resolution practice group, specialising in intellectual property, technology law, unfair competition, and digital consumer protection law. Lutz advises clients globally across a wide range of industries, with a particular focus on copyright law, platform and digital regulation and new technologies, including AI, especially within the tech and automotive sectors.
Lutz is equally skilled in both Soft IP litigation and complex, strategic advisory work, as well as IP-driven collaborations and transactions. His expertise focuses on tech and digital issues in connected environments such as the Internet of Things (IoT), and complex licensing matters, often in cross-border contexts.
Lutz' practical experience is grounded in his academic background, including a Master's in Information Law and Doctorate Degree in Vienna, a Master's of Law from the University of British Columbia and several years as research assistant at university and research institutes such as the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for European law.
