Kum Ju Son

Career

Kum Ju Son, a partner at Yulchon, primarily practices in corporate counseling and litigation in relation to ICT platform, antitrust, broadcasting/communication, energy, personal data protection and data-based AI. From 2001 to 2009, Mr. Son was a judge at the Seoul Central District Court, the Suwon District Court, the Gwangju District Court Suncheon Office, and the Seoul Administrative Court. From 2009 to 2016, as a partner at Yulchon, Mr. Son litigated a number of antitrust cases including cartel matters involving oil companies, cable TV operators, and music distributors. In the energy field, he represented clients including KEPCO, KHNP, GS Power, GS EPS, and Posco Power. In the TMT field, Mr. Son served as advisory attorney at the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and as a civilian legislative officer at the Korea Ministry of Government Legislation; as such, he advised the KCC and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and represented KT, SKT and other communications and broadcasting operators. Elected to the 20th Korean National Assembly in 2016, Mr. Son served as the Chief Commissioner for Bill Review in the Committee for Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups, and took part in government audits and statutory amendment work as a member of the Committee on National Assembly Operation, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, the Committee for Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications and the Committee for Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries.
