Jonathan C. Bond is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and its Appellate and Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, and Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice Groups. Mr. Bond’s practice focuses on appellate litigation in the Supreme Court of the United States and in federal and state appellate courts across the country and on administrative-law litigation.
Career
Mr. Bond rejoined Gibson Dunn after serving for five years in the Office of the Solicitor General in the U.S. Department of Justice, where he represented the United States in the Supreme Court and provided strategic advice to the Solicitor General, other Department of Justice officials, and other federal agencies. He has presented oral argument in the Supreme Court in 10 cases involving a range of legal issues, such as healthcare and insurance, taxation, administrative law, patents, employment, and debt collection. Mr. Bond has briefed more than 200 cases in the Supreme Court, including more than 30 cases at the merits stage. He has also briefed dozens of cases in other federal and state appellate courts and presented argument in appeals involving issues of administrative law, taxation, federal preemption, employee benefits, and telecommunications.
Personal
Mr. Bond received his J.D. (2008) with highest honors from the George Washington University Law School, where he received the John Bell Larner Award for the highest cumulative grade point average. He received a B.A. (2004) summa cum laude in political science from Grove City College and an M.Sc. (2005) with Distinction in public policy from University College London, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar. Following law school, Mr. Bond served as a law clerk for Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a Barrister in the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court.
