Jacob is a partner in the Tax and Tax Litigation groups at Davies in Toronto. He regularly advises clients in navigating their tax disputes with the Canadian taxing authorities, and has argued before the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal on matters ranging from income tax, excise tax, the general anti-avoidance rule (GAAR) and has successfully resolved numerous cases before trial. He has argued before the Federal Court of Canada on judicial review applications and the Ontario Superior Court (Commercial List) on matters such as curing corporate defects, rectification, and commercial disputes. Jacob also has extensive tax planning experience and advises both domestic and international clients on corporate tax, tax planning, M&A, business structuring and reorganizations. He is an active publisher and speaker and is an editor of Federate Press’ International Tax Planning. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where he teaches Canadian Income Tax Law to upper-year law students. He is also a practice group leader for The Advocates’ Society Tax Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
