Guy Du Pont

Guy is widely recognized as one of Canada’s leading litigation counsel. He is among a small number of Canadian litigators admitted as a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the American College of Trial Lawyers, and one of very few Canadians elected to the American Law Institute since its founding in 1923. He has received the Lawyer Emeritus Distinction from the Barreau du Québec, the Order of Merit from the University of Ottawa, the Tax Court of Canada Medal for outstanding service to the Court, and Benchmark Canada’s Hall of Fame Award. Guy acts in complex, high-stakes disputes across a broad range of areas, including taxation, class actions, competition, white-collar and constitutional law. He has appeared before trial and appellate courts across Canada, including the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Among his landmark matters, Guy successfully argued BCE Inc.’s appeal before the Supreme Court of Canada in connection with the proposed $52-billion takeover by the Teachers’ Consortium, widely regarded as one of Canada’s most significant commercial cases.
