Career
Carlos Garritano is chair of the Tucker Ellis Intellectual Property Department and a leading practitioner in intellectual property consultation and strategy. He advises clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups on the development, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property assets, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, contracts, and trade secrets. His practice spans patent litigation, portfolio development, licensing, patent/trademark preparation and prosecution, and IP issues in mergers and acquisitions.
With a background in Electrical Engineering, Carlos has drafted and prosecuted more than 900 patent applications across a wide range of advanced technical areas, including computer hardware and software, electronics, wireless systems, semiconductors, IoT, battery technology, and mechanical devices. Carlos is highly experienced in both utility and design patent prosecution and often integrates both to enhance product protection and deter infringement.
Carlos also represents clients in Post Grant Proceedings (PGP), including Inter Partes Review (IPR) and Post Grant Review (PGR), and has prepared and filed multiple IPR petitions. His transactional work includes advising on IP aspects of commercial agreements—such as licensing, supply, manufacturing, employment, consulting, and confidentiality—and helping clients align their IP strategies with broader business goals.
