Angel A. Cortiñas is a member of Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice and managing partner of the firm’s Miami office. He has over 25 years’ experience defending subjects and targets of white collar criminal investigations and conducting internal investigations; advising companies and individuals on criminal and civil enforcement matters; and providing strategic counsel on legal risk management. He has particular experience in criminal and civil fraud matters; FCPA investigations; and environmental crimes.
Career
Angel previously served as an appellate judge on Florida’s 3rd District Court of Appeal for more than eight years, reviewing civil and criminal appeals from trial courts and authored over 500 opinions. Before that he served as a judge on civil and criminal jury trials by appointment of the Florida Supreme Court. Angel is a former 13-year federal prosecutor and was the lead trial attorney in the US Attorney’s Office’s successful prosecution of Columbia HCA and Olsten Corporation—the largest fraud case in US history. As the former chief of the Fraud Section of the US Attorney’s Office in Miami, he oversaw all criminal investigations and prosecutions involving corporate and securities fraud, bank fraud, health care fraud, computer crimes, tax fraud and other white collar offenses.
