Bradley J. Sklar is a shareholder in Dentons Birmingham, Alabama office, where he serves as Co-Leader of Dentons National Tax Practice Group. Brad advises clients on complex corporate, tax, and business planning matters, including mergers and acquisitions, sales of businesses, capital formation, entity structuring, real estate development transactions, economic development incentives, and strategic tax planning.
For decades, Brad has served as a trusted advisor to business owners, developers, financial institutions, and high-net-worth families on sophisticated transactions and long-term growth strategies. In addition to his legal practice, Brad has served on the boards of three banking institutions, including Compass Bank (now PNC Bank), Renasant Bank, and Progress Bank (now United Community Bank), providing him with extensive experience in corporate governance, financial oversight, and strategic leadership.
Brad regularly counsels clients on structuring transactions to maximize tax efficiency, reduce risk, and navigate complex local, state, and federal tax considerations, including economic development incentives and Opportunity Zone planning. He works closely with business-oriented clients to build, buy, sell, and develop innovative business ventures and projects throughout Alabama and the Southeast.
Over the course of his career, Brad has worked on numerous transformative business and development projects. Among other matters, he helped facilitate the sale of the Orlando Magic NBA franchise prior to Shaquille O’Neal joining the team and worked on the sale of the Birmingham Barons before Michael Jordan’s arrival. He has also advised on significant office building, multifamily, and public-private partnership developments throughout the region.
Brad played a key role in incentive projects that helped drive major community development initiatives, including Regions Field and the revitalization of Birmingham’s Parkside district. In addition, he was instrumental in bringing limited liability companies to Alabama in 1993. Brad served for many years on the Alabama Law Institute’s Drafting Committee and was the principal draftsperson for Alabama’s first Limited Liability Company Act.
