Alex is a Principal Associate in our national Real Estate Litigation team, based in our Manchester office.
He is a key member of our northern team, leading on a number of the team’s high-value and high-profile cases. He advises on all aspects of contentious landlord and tenant portfolio management, development and property disputes for a range of clients and stakeholders.
He is a particular specialist in dealing with high-profile protest actions, rights of light disputes, development disputes, CPO compensation claims, business rates and mines and minerals disputes.
He works with his clients to assess, understand and reduce their exposure to risk. Clients value his ability to understand their business and provide tailored advice and guidance to meet their commercial objectives.
Alex has experience in guiding clients and resolving cases through the full range of different dispute resolution methods including the High Court, arbitration, specialist determination and mediation.
Alex regularly provides training, to clients and the market alike, on contentious property issues (dilapidations, break notices, rights of first refusal, etc.) and is known for his ability to distill and convey complex legal issues simply and practically.
Alex’s reported cases include: Harrison v. Laidlaw [2014] EWHC 35 (Ch); Cabot Carbon Ltd v. Manchester Ship Canal Co Ltd [2015] (Ch); Welcocks Skips Limited v. Network Rail Infrastructure Limited [2019] UKUT 162 (LC); Valley Brook v. HUAM [2020] EWHC 1715 (Ch); and Smoke Club Ltd and others v. Network Rail Infrastructure Limited [2021] UKUT 0078.
