Career

Alan Heuston graduated from University College Cork (BCL) in 1996 and qualified in 2002. He joined McCann FitzGerald LLP in 2016 as a Partner. Alan works on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, reorganisations, restructurings, migrations, capital markets, financial products and banking. He also advises both domestic and international clients on the tax implications of setting up operations in Ireland to exploit and develop intellectual property. Alan is a qualified Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and Solicitor and is therefore able to understand complex accounting, legal and tax issues and he uses that knowledge to develop commercial solutions to issues as they arise. Alan also heads up our Betting and Gaming Group. As a former director of tax with Paddy Power Betfair Plc, Alan has significant first-hand experience of the regulatory and taxation aspects of the betting and gaming sector.

Alan co-authored the Irish chapter of The Gambling Law Review 2017 (Second Edition) and the Irish chapter of The International Comparative Legal Guide - Gambling 2022.
