Tiago de Mattos is a highly respected Mining Law specialist with extensive experience advising and representing companies across the full spectrum of mining-related legal matters. A graduate of UFMG, he holds an LLM from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee and a Master’s degree in Socio-economic and Environmental Sustainability from UFOP. He has also completed executive training in extractive industries and sustainable development at Columbia University.
Tiago advises clients in both consultancy and litigation, drafting legal opinions, structuring business models, negotiating contracts, and managing regulatory, judicial, and arbitral proceedings. He is widely recognised for his ability to navigate the legal, environmental and economic complexities of mining operations in Brazil.
President of the Brazilian Institute of Mining Law (IBDM), Tiago is also a professor and coordinator of the postgraduate programme in Mining Law at CEDIN/IBDM. He has co-authored several reference works in the field, including Mining Law Dictionary and Mining, Environmental and Tax Issues in Mining Law, and is consistently ranked by Chambers, The Legal 500 and Lexology for his distinguished work in the sector.
