Tom Gonzalez has been guiding relationships between employers and employees for more than 40 years. A trusted and loyal advocate, he partners with management-side clients to address and manage the barrage of ever-evolving and sometimes juxtaposed federal, state, city, and county employment laws and regulations. Board certified by The Florida Bar in Education Law, clients consider Tom an extension of their team, turning to him again and again for compliance advice and counseling, dispute and litigation support, and union prevention.
Tom’s sapient and practical advice serves as a protective overlay to daily operations. He works closely with business owners and HR professionals to ensure compliance with complex laws and regulations through periodic reviews and ongoing preventative maintenance. His decades of experience include matters involving personnel policies and procedures, wage and hour law, equal opportunity law, discrimination, sexual harassment, breach of contract, wrongful termination, First Amendment, Florida Whistleblower Act, FLSA, and FMLA violations. When violation claims require defense, Tom is known for his expertise in handling particularly contentious issues and represents employers in a wide array of labor and employment law matters before both administrative agencies and in state, federal, and appellate courts.
Before joining the GrayRobinson team, Tom served as the city attorney for the city of Tampa, school board attorney for the School Board of Hillsborough County, and as general counsel for the Florida College System Risk Management Consortium. With his extensive public sector background, Tom brings valuable perspectives in union elections, unfair labor practice charges, collective bargaining, and arbitration.
