Career
Steven represents employers in complex wage and hour litigation and appeals with decades of experience.
He has defended companies in more than 200 class, collective, and representative actions across a wide range of industries, including retail, pharmaceuticals, IT, food service, manufacturing, hospitality, education, automotive, insurance, defense, and professional sports. Steven concentrates his practice on wage and hour matters and brings deep experience handling high-stakes employment and commercial litigation at both the trial and appellate levels.
As a California State Bar–certified appellate specialist, Steven has handled nearly 150 appellate and writ proceedings for parties and amici before appellate courts nationwide, including the U.S. Supreme Court, California Supreme Court, and multiple federal circuits. His appellate advocacy complements his litigation practice, allowing him to guide cases from initial defense through final resolution and to step in to employment cases on the appellate level with an understanding of strategic subtleties that only an employment specialist can provide.
Steven previously clerked for a federal judge and has served on the clinical faculties at both UCLA School of Law and Stanford Law School. He is also a frequent media commentator on employment law developments, offering insight into emerging legal trends and appellate decisions impacting employers.
His ability to manage complex litigation and shape strategy at all stages—from trial court to appeal—makes him a valuable resource for employers facing class action risk and precedent-setting disputes.
