Career

Sofía Castañón is Associate in the Mexico City office. She joined the firm in 2014 and finalized Law School at Universidad Anáhuac Mexico City in 2016, where she graduated with the degree thesis titled "Approach to the figure of Apellations of Origin in light of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)” with a pre-specialty in Corporate Law and a diploma in Business Leadership and has attended several courses such as the I Congress of International Economic Law.

In addition, she obtained her Master of Laws in Intellectual Property (LL.M.) from Turin University in Italy in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization, in 2020, and successfully completed the Harvard Law School CopyrightX course, in 2023.

She specializes in the Intellectual Property, Consumer Protection and Advertising areas, mainly advising on registration, licensing, transfer, and maintenance of Intellectual Property rights such as trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, domain names and data privacy as well as in intellectual property matters arising from corporate transactions.

She also regularly assists in the drafting and negotiation of agreements of all type of IP rights, including software and technology, as well as on other relevant matters within the entertainment, consumer and food and beverage industries

Ms. Castañón has been recognized as an “Associate to Watch” for intellectual property by Chambers & Partners, with one source stating: “Sofía provides us with excellent attention. She is an author of several publications in her areas of expertise, including the International Comparative Law Guides (ICLG) on Cybersecurity and Gambling, and

a member of the International Trademark Association and Abogadas MX.

Ms. Castañón also participated in the I Congress of International Economic Law and International Business "New Legal Perspectives of Euro-American Transactions" Universidad Complutense de Madrid and also in the Seminar on Confidential Historical Archives Access - Mexican Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data ("INAI").

Her native language is Spanish and she is fluent in English.
