Simon Bouthillier

Simon Bouthillier has acted for clients in several high-profile constitutional law cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, concerning the federal division of powers and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

He also maintains a robust regulatory practice, regularly advising businesses on the constitutional applicability of federal, provincial, or municipal regulations to their activities.

Mr. Bouthillier was awarded the Ronald L. Watts Award by the International Association of Centers for Federal Studies in 2021. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, which have been cited in parliamentary committees, and has presented at conferences across Canada and abroad on the Canadian Charter, the federal division of powers, intergovernmental relations, and administrative law. He is regularly invited to judge the prestigious Laskin Moot Court Competition in public law.

Mr. Bouthillier is currently the chair of the Canadian Bar Association's Constitutional and Administrative Law Section.
