Sara specialises in media and information law, with a particular expertise in privacy, defamation, data protection, breach of confidence, harassment and group litigation.
She has acted in many high-profile and significant cases in this area. Examples include Vardy v Rooney (libel trial involving allegation that Ms Vardy was leaking private messages to The Sun newspaper), Banks v Cadwalladr (libel trial involving allegation in a Ted Talk), ZXC v Bloomberg (trial, CA and UKSC appeals involving privacy rights of suspects of crime); Sicri v Associated Newspapers (trial involving suspect of crime); TLT v Secretary of State for Home Department (data protection trial and appeal involving Home Office data breach); OPO v Rhodes (UKSC case concerning the ban on the publication of an autobiography).
She has been part of the Counsel Team for the Claimants their phone hacking claims against News Group Newspapers and Mirror Group Newspapers, with specific clients including David Tennant, Sienna Miller and Sir Simon Hughes.
Sara is an ADR Group Accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator.
She sits on the Board and is a Trustee of the legal reform charity JUSTICE. In the past she has been involved in a number of Legal Assistance Programmes with the Bar Human Rights Committee including a Judicial Visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, a Library Resources Project in Sudan and Commercial Law Training Project in Sudan.
She is a contributor to Information Rights (6th ed, 2023, Coppel) and ‘Football and the Law’ (2nd ed, 2022).
