Sally is a highly experienced contentious trusts and estates practitioner, recognised for advising on complex, high-value, and sensitive trust and probate disputes. She has extensive experience in resolving challenging estate and family conflicts, combining technical expertise with a pragmatic and strategic approach to dispute resolution.
Her practice encompasses the full spectrum of private client litigation, including trust disputes, executor and trustee removal applications, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, will validity challenges, and matters involving the interpretation, rectification, and construction of wills. She also advises on estate administration disputes and a broad range of other contentious private client matters. Working closely with colleagues across private client, tax, and property disciplines, she delivers comprehensive and commercially focused advice tailored to her clients’ objectives.
An ADR-accredited mediator, Sally is known for her empathetic, balanced, and resolution-focused approach. She works to create an environment in which parties feel heard and understood, using active listening and effective communication techniques to identify underlying interests and facilitate practical settlements.
She is particularly passionate about helping individuals and families navigate the legal and emotional complexities of trust and probate disputes, acting both as a trusted adviser and as an experienced mediator.
As an ACTAPS committee member Sally contributes to the work of the organisation to support practitioners in this area and help shape best practice. She also organises Freeths annual contentious trust and probate seminars with 5 Stone Buildings and is a founding member of the Thames Valley Contentious Probate Lawyers Network.
Sally Goodger joined Henmans (now Freeths LLP) on qualification in 2005. Sally’s early career focused on defendant professional negligence claims before specialising in private client disputes for the last 12 years. Sally was promoted to director in 2020.
