Career

Rodrigo Stein has over 20 years’ experience advising national and international clients on corporate, indirect and international taxation; and transfer pricing; and representing clients in their dealings with the tax authorities, both at an administrative level and in court. His advisory services focus on a wide range of tax matters involved in clients’ daily operations in industries such as mining, energy and natural resources, infrastructure, transport and technology. He also has experience in leading highly complex projects, including local and crossborder mergers and reorganizations, project finance and the structuring of joint ventures.

Before joining Cuatrecasas, he was a partner at one of the four leading international auditing firms. He also worked at one of Chile’s leading law firms.

He is admitted to practice law in Chile and in the State of New York.

Professional Memberships

He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and is on the Technical and Editorial Board of IFA Chile’s Scientific Committee. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of New York University’s International Taxation Program.

He frequently speaks at national and international conferences, including on IFA Chile’s panels on international reorganizations, indirect sales tax, and international double tax treaties.

Work Highlights

Recently he has led:

• Advised LATAM Airlines Group S.A. on the Chilean tax consequences of the issuance of a convertible bond and their exchange as payment of claims under the company’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan. Also assisted the company in structuring the refinancing of existing term loans raised to repay debtor in possession debt.

• Advice Glencore on the structuring of its intra group financing structure as well as management of surplus cash position.

• Tax counsel to Total System Services Inc. on the negotiation and closing of a global platform agreement for the issuance of credit carts for Cencosud S.A. ad Scotiabank.
