Nick has a broad commercial practice, divided equally between Court litigation and international arbitration. Alongside general commercial disputes and advice, he has particular experience of disputes involving civil fraud, energy, banking and finance and jurisdiction/interim injunctions.
Recent cases include acting for VW in the ‘diesel-gate’ group litigation; for BHP in the Fundão dam group litigation; for an energy multinational in a multi-billion dollar oil and gas SIAC arbitration in Singapore; for a national electricity company in a multi-billion dollar gas supply ICC arbitration in Paris; for the note trustee in a bondholder dispute (High Court & LCIA arbitrations); in the Dar Al Arkan dispute (Comm. Ct US$1 billion conspiracy/regulatory dispute); Alliance Bank (Comm. Ct US$1 billion banking fraud claim/jurisdiction challenge); acting for a major bank in a US$600m+ LCIA arbitration against a broker; and Bilta v Deutsche Bank (Ch. Division, alleged carbon trading fraud).
