Michael Friedman

Michael is the head of McMillan’s National Tax Group and stands as one of Canada’s leading tax lawyers. Michael’s practice focuses on a diverse range of domestic and international taxation matters. He has specialized expertise in the planning and structuring of domestic and multi-national commercial acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations and business combinations. Michael is also widely recognized for his expertise advising clients on (i) transfer pricing matters, and (ii) the taxation of investment funds and structured products. Michael has ben ranked by Chambers and has been recognized as a Recommended Practitioner by the Legal 500 and a Leading Tax Advisor by the International Tax Review. Michael has also enjoyed great success resolving tax disputes for clients with both the Canada Revenue Agency and the provincial revenue authorities. He has appeared before both the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. Michael is a prolific writer and has authored over 100 tax publications, is regularly quoted in the Canadian print media, and appears on the national television networks to comment on tax matters.
