Practice Areas
Michael focuses on transactional matters in the securitization and asset-based lending/leasing areas and on the development and modernization of wholesale and retail (consumer) lending/leasing programs for vehicle and equipment lessors, financiers and suppliers. He advises sellers, purchasers, liquidity lenders, credit enhancers, trustees and rating agencies in connection with domestic and cross-border securitization transactions. He also acts for a number of Canadian financial institutions in establishing domestic and cross-border private securitization programs and bulk purchase programs.
Career
For over a decade, Michael has consistently been recognized in the major legal directories and ranking publications as one of Canada’s top lawyers in the areas of securitization, equipment leasing and finance, and secured transactions.
Professional Memberships
Michael has also been involved in a number of industry associations and legal professional organizations in Canada and the U.S. He is chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Personal Property Security Law Committee and is member of the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association’s (CFLA) Legal Committee. For many years, he was a member of CFLA’s Board of Directors, a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Lenders Association, a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, and a member of the U.S. Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s Legal Committee.
